World EXPO 2010: Introductory speech

Introductory speech by His Royal Highness The Crown Prince at a breakfast meeting at the Norwegian EXPO Pavilion, Shanghai 28 May 2010.

Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to the Norwegian Pavilion at the World EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. I have just arrived – but from what I have seen so far, I can see that it is a truly spectacular event.

I have been looking forward to this day with excitement, and I am sure that it will represent Sino-Norwegian cooperation at its very best. I hope this day will lay the fundament for further developing our already inspiring and close relationship. I am pleased that my visit to EXPO can start in such a calm and relaxed atmosphere. The architects of this Pavilion, Helen & Hard, have not only produced an innovative design, but they have also provided an outstanding example of sustainable use of wood.

Norway’s participation in the Shanghai World EXPO has been made possible through a common effort and close cooperation between the Norwegian Government and Norwegian business sector. Together, they have created a unique arena for meaningful exchange on important topics. The goal is to take a step forward in sustainable economic development and trade between China and Norway.

It is therefore a great pleasure to see Norway’s EXPO 2010 partners gathered here, together with trusted business relations. All companies present here today have operations in China, some with a history going back several decades. You all know that good business relations are based on a long-term commitment, mutual trust, confidence and friendship.

I would like to congratulate all of you on your concerted efforts to make Norway’s participation in the World EXPO 2010 a fruitful and great success. Thank you.
